We got a little ice and some very cold temps (for the Houston area) - I moved as much of the garden into the garage as we could lift! The rest got tarped, fingers crossed the tomatoes make it through 🤞 🍅 🌱

Well, I was absolutely going to do an unboxing when my author copies of GOD’S GIFT OF GUARDIAN ANGELS arrived…and then, true to the season, we were rushing out the door for a kid activity (which we were late for) and someone tripped over a box.

I saw the words “Penguin Random House.” 😳

“Those are books!!! MY books!”

I tore the box open, grabbed a book and kept moving to the car. My youngest got to be “the first person ever in the world to read it” while I drove.

Now I’m sitting quietly in the car, in between drop offs and events, taking a first look. 😇💛

Spelling bee today! 🐝 like last year, she got oh-so-close and did not quite win…it was a bit rough on her!

But I told her I was proud of her because losing is HARDER than winning - and after I said it, I realized it was true! 😅 #parenting #truth

Seriously, though - we never want to lose, but don’t we usually grow more by losing than winning? I need that reminder sometimes, too!

This got a little out of hand for what was going to be a quick sketch, but I had fun doing it! I used Norman Rockwell’s famous Thanksgiving painting as inspiration, and replaced all the people with the wildlife we see here in north central PA.

From left to right:
Cottontail rabbit
Whitetail deer
Red foxes
Blue jay
Cardinals
Black bears
Red squirrel
Wood turtle
Groundhog
Bobcat
Wild turkey 🦃

The bobcat might be looking a little hungrily at the rabbit instead of the pile of fruit, but not to worry - they’ve declared a truce for their Thanksgiving meal.

I just did my first Painting Wonder author visit at an elementary, and it was a blast! We talked about how books are made, posed with our stuffed animals for tea parties, and voted so I could make drawings of my kids’ stuffed animals. ✍️ Whew!

The results are in, and K-2 at this school prefers lions at their tea parties, mostly drinking hot chocolate (marshmallows, no whipped cream). ☕️ 🦁

To top it all off, the art teacher used some materials on my website to do dragon drawings with the kids later, and I got some beautiful thank you notes. 💛

Don’t judge! I have three kids! They’ll each get a full set someday, and I’ll have a few left over 🧐

👉 to see the only proper order to read them in, if you’re curious. Maybe I’ll make stickers to cover up those incorrect numbers…

Anyways, every single copy I have, regardless of cover, has Pauline Baynes’ illustrations on the inside. 🙌 Has anyone found any editions without her illustrations?? I’ve heard rumors of one but never seen it.
