It’s Guardian Angels day!! 😇 one of the best parts of making GOD’S GIFT OF GUARDIAN ANGELS (Little Golden Books) was these wordless scenes of guardian angels and their kids - it makes me smile to think of angels adding a double Dutch jump rope, making a snow angel, keeping the kite in the air, helping a kid reach that perfect apple…I hope it makes you smile too!

Yay for #kidlitartpostcard day! I’m Katie, and I’m an author & illustrator of with two books out (PAINTING WONDER, Waxwing Books 2025; GOD’S GIFT OF GUARDIAN ANGELS, Little Golden Books, 2026) and one on the way (WRITING BEAUTY, Waxwing Books 2027).

It’s been busy busy around here and I mostly can’t share the things I’m working on…YET!! But can’t wait until I can! 🐎 📚

In the meantime I love seeing everyone’s fun spooky art while I lurk 👀 and here’s a piece I call “inspiration.” ✍️

Happy October!

I was just flipping through a sketchbook to find something, and came across this little mini sketch of the sandcastle & shadows when I first thought about it. I actually couldn’t find the sketch when I started working on it again later, but it didn’t matter - it was in my head! 👉 for the final image!

Almost forgot, but better late than never - it’s #kidlitartpostcard day! 🙌 Follow that hashtag! So many great kidlit artists out there, and it’s a great way to spot new ones (and support friends)!

I’m Katie, an award-winning (I can say that now, I think?) author and illustrator of picture books. PAINTING WONDER in 2025, GOD’S GIFT OF GUARDIAN ANGELS in 2026, and WRITING BEAUTY coming in 2027.

I’m excited to be represented by the lovely @cjb.131 at @prospectagency and you can check out more at my website or theirs. Have a great day, all!

We made so many creekstone rock pets we had to set up a Pet Rock Adoption center on the edge of the creek so passing kayaks / tubes can give our pet rocks good homes 🏡

Each one gets a name and date of birth.

Haven’t named this big guy yet…

👀 the eyes are clay, superglued to creekstones.

This is Kenny.

He might be my favorite.

Summer is kids and creeks and colored pencils 💛

School starts early in TX so it feels like we’re wrapping up soon, but for now we’re still soaking up time with family and taking it easy. Hope you’re all doing the same, and getting in some “wow nature!” moments, too!
